NARS In Print

NARS in Print is actually the title of one of the photo albums I found on the NARS Cosmetics Facebook page. Interested to see what kind of images the album containes, of course, I clicked on it. Luckly for me, it was full of magazine covers created by NARS' make up artists as well as articles about their products from various magazines.

This first image that I found was a cover for Harper's Bazaar. The makeup artist was Francelle and she created a gorgeous sunkissed look featuring a bold red lip. The hair was big, wavy and clipped on the side with sort of a fabric beige flower. It may not be the style of image I want to do for editorials, or advertorials I should say, but this is exactly the kind of skin I want to do for the evening look as well as the shimmery eyes, the day look will be more highlighted and 'wet' looking. The red lip is also an element I am considering to include.
I believe they used a beauty dish when shooting this cover as I can see the white circles in her eyes.

This next image is more down the path of where I'm taking my editorials. It is an advertorial tor the NARS Nouveau Monde Duo Eyeshadow in the Marie Claire March 2011 issue.
The hair is naturally curly, a bit messy from the wind, her skin is beautifully bronzed and eyes are blue and glossy. They shaped her brows and used a reddish lipgloss on the lips.
The make up artist's top tip for the look is to use lip balm on the eyes to create that shiny look as, in her words, blue eye shadows can look retro if it is applied too precisely.

I really like the pose, as she looks as if she is soaking up the Sun and this will be one of the images I will be showing my model before the shoot, so she knows what poses I want for my shoot.

A look created by Uzo  for A Magazine featuring Elle Fanning. Rodarte provided the clothing.
Although I think that the set up is fake and is not at a real tropical destination (it might be, but I don't think it is), the colours and the vibe is very  holiday-esque. Though she is as pale as it can be, her clothing makes her look very regal, and we know that royalty likes their porcelin white skin. She looks like a princess on holiday.

Next, editorial in Latin Vogue featuring Crystal Renn, May 2012 issue. In this editorial they featured they new (at the time) Red Square Velvet Matte Lip Pencil. Everything in this image yells 50's, from the outfit and the biggest retro glasses you have seen to the hair. The gorgeous locks we created with heated rollers. The colour scheme is similar to the two editorials above; greens, blues and all the shades between (terquoise). She looks like a brunette version of Marilyn Monroe, minus the beauty mark.

I will guess and say the reflection in her sunglasses is not actually the Sun, but the studio lights, but I may be mistaken.

The look created by Maud Laceppe for Numero Magazine is by far my favourite look in this album because of how playful they were with the shadows. Her hands are 'blocking the Sun' but the shadows are to harsh to be real, expecially on her face. I believe it was shot in the studio. The hairstyle is what I the kind I want for my evening look, as I have already said, and the dress does imply that this is a night time look rather that day time.
They are showcasing the Casino bronzer in this editorial.

The last photograph that I want to include in this post instantly reminded me of my Advert idea, the lipstick advert to be precise, as well as the pose I want for it. The model here is wearing a platinum blonde wig that is hiding her eyes and all the focus is on the deep red, glossy lips. This was an editorial for ELLE Korea in July 2012 issue. The products and the look that they are selling through this advertorial were Shanghai Express Lipstick and Norma Larger Than Life Lip Gloss.

The suit and the background blended very nicely allowing the model's face to stand out more. They also made everything but the face slightly blurred in post-production to add to the effect.
