Highly influenced and inspired by Guy Bourdin, French photographer, Francois created a holiday collection in his honour. It was released in NARS stores and Sephora on Nov 1 2013. The aim was not only to celebrate the great artist but to celebrate colour and using it to create movement, to liberate and to love.

Guy Bourdin, one of the best photographers in the world, best known for his work for Vogue and Harper's Bazaar during the 70's. Throughout his photographs he portrayed women as strong, powerful sexual beings, whilst keeping the images sophisticated and classy. The photographs were very colourful, as Nars said: “The colours in his photographs are like an artist’s palette,”
The collection was created based on Bourdin's photographs, such as the layered hand image (image above). His son, Samuel, gave Francois access to the archives and he was able to pick and choose photgraphs as well as gather ideas regarding what colours and hues would be best to use - he went with bright, vivid colours such as purple, blue and copper/ orange. He said:

I picked, I think, the most iconic one, which is the one I really loved as a kid. It was the one that really made me dream, the one that pushed me to be a makeup artist. There are eyeshadows, palettes, blushes, lipsticks and nail varnishes in the collection. All products were limitted edition and are not avalible anymore. I couldn't find the prices in pounds but looking at the prices in dollars, the prices are the same as for other limited edition collections that NARS had released throughout the years. They vary from 19$ - 75$, 19 being the nail varnishes and 75 one of the gift sets.
Highly pigmented, shimmery eyeshadows are in the shades; Cambodia, Mississippi Mermaid, Bad Behaviour, Wishful Thinking, and Rage could be used to create various variations of looks as there are bright, but also smokey dark and natural colours.
Five lipsticks are in shades: Goodbye Emmanuelle, Last Tango, Future Red, Short Circuit, and Full Frontal. There are pinks and reds which gives the buyers options.
There are also three blushes; Exhibit A, Day Dream, Couer Battant. I am pretty sure that the blush in the shade Exhibit A is still sold on the website and it is a beautiful red toned blush - perfect for dark skin tones.

The packaging of the palettes and gift sets (some even included little make up bags with hearts on) is absolutely stunning; it contains some of Bourdin's most iconic photographs, while other products are put in NARS signature black, sleek packaging. NARS is written in their usual font, and is white, while 'Guy Bourdin' is in capital black letters on the right side, over lapping 'NARS' with red background that is a lipstick stain/ brush stroke.

Here are the advertorials I found that were created with the products from this collection. Personally the first image below is my favourite as the colours are very bold but work beautifully together. They decided to do one eye blue and one purple which is very interesting because usually if you want to use both colours together you use the two mixed together. This way we can really see the shades from the collection.
While this first make up look is only for the brave as it is very colourful, the one below it is still very bold, but with darker tones and very sophisticated. To be honest the model almost looks like a widow, that just got ready for the funeral, to me at least. I also really like the netted veil that is falling over her face as it is not hiding the make up but adds a bit of mystery.
The hair in all looks is, as usually, pulled back.
