Spring / Summer Makeup Trends - Blue Eyes

The first thing I've noticed on a lot of model's eyes was a pop of blue. The color was seen on in the Autumn / Winter 2015/ 2016 catwalk shows, and it stuck for the upcoming seasons. The colour was mostly swept over the lids very messily and uneven but I guess it was so effective that a lot of make up artist experimented with it for SS16 make up.

Blue is a cool colour and is not necesserily the first shade that comes to your mind when you are thinking about spring and summer make up. Could be connected with the ocean and clear blue sky actually and there is something really interesting about these looks, I think. We can see different hues of blue; from very pale, pastel, baby shades to quite bold and bright, royal blue shades. 
The skin was kept very natural, glowing with minimal or zero contouring and blush so a splash of blue really made the eyes stand out. The colour was used either all over the top eyelid (Karen Walker, Jill Stuart), as eyeliner on either top or botton lashline (sometimes on both) or just in the inner/ outer corners (Marc Jacobs, 3.1 Phillip Lim). Chanel went all out and their models had a blue mask around their eyes, while others had a mixture of terquoise blue and green hues (Diane von Furstenberg) or added glitter for a more glam look (Manish Arora, Dries van Noten). At Ashley Williams and Mary Katrantzou's shows blue mascara was used and eyelids were bare.
Obviously, the make up mirrors the fashion and there were quite a few collections with blue garnments, expecially Marc Jacobs Spring 2016 Collection.

No matter how many different variatons of blue we saw on the catwalk, I could hardly find any in editorials of magazines I looked at so far -Vogue, Elle (March 20160). Never the less, this doesn't mean I shouldn't use the colour for my editorial. I already have a few ideas of how to incorporate blue into my makeup designs however I need to put them down on paper first to see what could work best for my chosen brand - NARS. I want to use different hues of blue throughout all of final looks and have that as the link between all six of them. Not sure if the blue will be only in make up, I might use blue accessories, hair ties, garnments or props. 

NARS Cosmetics actually has a very 'loud' shade of eyeshadow in deep blue named 'Blue China' and a ocean blue shade 'Bavaria'. The shade 'Solomon Islands' which comes in a paint pot was used by Francois Nars in his designs for the Marc Jacob catwalk show for which he created a 1940's inspired 'party girl' look. He used the colour in the inner corners of his model's eyes. 
The same shade was used for the 3.1 Phillip Lim's catwalk make up by Francelle Daly, who is the lead artist. 
Sada Ito, International Lead Makeup Stylist for NARS created a different look for each model for the Toga Archive SS16 fashion show. One of the looks I found was created with a silvery-blue eye makeup, and the other had the top lip blue, and the bottom black, which was quite interesting.

I will have to research more into this to see if NARS had any campaigns and looks they created with these shades, or if they have any others that I might have not found in my research so far.
