NARS Day To Night Looks

Browsing through NARS Youtube videos I have found a few where they have first created a daytime look, then, by adding more products, they created an evening look. 

First look was created by one of the NARS lead make up artist - Uzo and it featured the 2014 Spring Color Collection. She talks her model through the products she is using, which I think is very important for the client to know so that they know exactly what is going on their face, but they might also want to go out and buy the products later, if they like them. On the eyes she used the Kauai Duo Eyeshadow - the lighter, gold colour.
 Uzo recommends to first apply the eyeshadow with a dense brush, then, to qoute her, blend to perfection, with a blending brush. She used different brushes to blend, her goal was to create an airbrushed eye look. She added some colour to the blush using the multiple stick in the shade Na Pali Coast, and on the lips she used the NARS Larger Than Life Lipgloss in the shade Bimini.
To change this look from day to night she added the darker colour from the duo, the iridecent orchid shade to add depth and drama to the look- she applied and blended it into the crease and she also used a lip liner in the similar colour very close to the lash line. She made the lips a bit more darker, but still kept them fairly nude - she used a 'wash' of the NARS Satin Lip pencil in the shade Timanfaya, then re-applied the gloss to the centre of the lips to create more dimension and add shine.

Next is a 'Day to Night' tutorial by Jenny Smith, lead make up stylist for NARS Cosmetics, and she used the Dual Intensity Eyeshadow palette from the NARSissist collection.

For the 'everyday look' first she applied the eyeshadow all over the eyelid, dry, then added the same colour, but wet, and blended it - this will be the base for the look. Then she took the lightest colour from the palette and applied it wet to the inner corners of the eyes to brighten. The third colour she used for the day look was gold, and she applied it dry to the centre of the lids, then wet on the lower lash line. She said that, at NARS, they like to combine warm and cool tones to create unique combinations - which is something not everyone would do. 

By adding a darker colour all over the eyelids and across the lower lash line she changed the look from day to night, and just added lighter colours to the centre of the lid and inner corners to accentuate the eye shape and bring out the eyes.

How To: Create an Everyday Eye

This last look is a modern 60's inspired look and Marco Castro shows us how to create two looks - a more subtle and intense smokey eye by using the same palette, the Dual Intensity. He combined eyeshadows, wet and dry to create both looks. To apply the eyeshadows he used the wet-dry brush that comes with the palette, but he also used his fingers. The first look is a natural smokey eye, whereas the second look is more of a 'weekend' look and he added a deep blue for a pop of colour.

As we have to create a day and night look for each of the three categories, it was interesting to see first hand from some of the best NARS make up artist how they create the looks. I like how they used the Dual Intensity eyeshadows to create the looks as I want to use that concept in my designs, too. The glossy nude lip that Uzo created in the day look I would like to include in either my advert or editorial. Also, I really liked the second look that Marco Castro created as the colour blue is the spring / summer trend this year and the deep, midnight blue is perfect for night time. I might be adding some gloss on top of the 

eyeshadows, to make them really stand out - but only on the centre.  100% using the Dual Intensity eyeshadows as a base of my editorial - the ideas will be posted soon, I haven't found inspiration on the concept for the shoot. Over the next couple of days I will be posting and properly researching the current make up trends and then I will, hopefully, form a concept in my head.
