Spring/ Summer Hairstyles - Slick, Wet Hair & Low Ponytails

Summer is associated with the beach, pools and swimming and this means getting the hair wet, slicked and messy. Summer also means that it gets quite hot, and a lot of us, epecially with long hair, like to tie the hair back and this season low pony tails (some had high, too) and effortless low buns are in fashion. 
There were so many variations of these looks on the catwalks. In this post I combined wet looks and low ponytails as many low pony tails were combined with wet look. Gel is a good products to create these kind of looks as, if applied in a generous amount, it creates and doesn't change the looks after it dries. 

 The slicked wet look was seen, for example, at David Koma, Jason Wu, Sophia Webster's fashion shows; low pony tails at Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta and Chanel and messy buns at Nicholas K and Bodega Veneta's SS16 shows. There were even some looks where just the roots were looking wet, which appears like the hair was half dried, or plain greassy; Milly, Thakoon, Roberto Cavalli.

Inspired by the classic topknot, Macadamia Professional's ambassador Giannandrea Marongiu used their products to do 'the back knot', a lower version. Using hair extensions for length, he basically created a loop with the models' ponytails and then tied it back on itself at the ponytail base, concealed with a small section of loose hair. Cool!

"It's the way a very real woman would do her hair" Redken Global Creative Director Guido said of this look. Hurrah! To create the Bottega Veneta loop, he blasted the hair with Redken's Wind Blown 05 and gave it a rough part, and pulled the hair halfway through an elastic to create a half-finished loop. One trend we can ace with ease.

The models had grownup graphic pigtails at Marni created by hairstylist Paul Hanlon. From the front all eyes were on the exaggerated 60s lashes, with wispy falsies applied by makeup artist Tom Pecheux. Wow.

At Oscar De La Renta, Redken Global Creative Director Guido gave girls a luxury ponytail. "I tied a piece of ribbon with one loop, so it isn't a full bow, around the ponytail, so it feels very romantic and feminine," he said. So does the models' matte red pout, achieved with the MAC lip pencil in Follow Your Heart. This is sophisticated glamour at its finest.

The ethereal beauty look at Bora Aksu came courtesy of FaceLace designs accessorising the models' foreheads and temples. Stunning! The low, loose ponytails by the KMS team also oozed romance, but the considered side partings made the look more modern.

The Look: Warrior Princess How-To: It used to be that when you thought of Balmain, you thought of Kim Kardashian. Now, it's Gigi and Kendall and all the other bright young things in fashion's coolest girl gang, but the sex! sex! sex! quality remains. The Balmain girl, as the adage goes, is the one you want to be and your boyfriend wants to date. (Which is to say, a little too unreal.) Boldness and strength not only ruled this season's collection—after all, Rousteing is 30 this year and at the top of the game—but the beauty look, too, which featured "exaggeratedly high sex ponytails" (thanks to lots of silky, tapered extensions) by Sam McKnight and "naturally tanned, caramel-toned skin that feels like a sunset" by Tom Pecheux. To pull off the bronze sculpting without falling into Youtube Contouring 101 territory, Pecheux spends his time blending until he can't blend any more, and then blending some more. He starts with a brown cream, which he swipes across the lids and rubs in all the way up the hollows of the cheekbones, then switches to a shimmery bronzer and blends that from the apples to the temples, mixing it in with the cream. A few taps of highlighter go under the eyes and across the brow bones and, voila!, a look that says, according to Pecheux, "it's always summer here." Backstage Essentials: M.A.C. Redken Global Creative Director Guido gave girls a "tomboyish 80s look" with a cool quiff. He explained, "I created a deep side part and then blow-dried the hair with Redken's Guts 10 to create a slight peak in the front and long and straight in the back, so it's a bit boy in the front and girl in the back. The look is very easy since I created it using my fingers, so it's something that a woman could really achieve for herself." We might try it.

These are the elements that I want to include into my designs for sure. NARS like to slick the hair back in order to open up the face and bring out the make up. I will be combining both wet hair and low pony tails. Need to do some more research, but I will start creating (and posting) face charts soon.
